I am an ESRC funded PhD student in the University of Glasgow’s School of Psychology. I work with Prof Stephany Biello and Dr Heather Cleland Woods.
I am interested in adolescents’ social media habits, sleep and wellbeing. My research to date has examined associations between these factors and highlighted the role of cognitive factors such as fear of missing out and pre-sleep cognitive arousal.
In my PhD research, I am further exploring these cognitive aspects of social media use, with a focus on underlying motivations that can make it difficult for teenagers to disengage from social media at bedtime. My research combines quantitative and qualitative methods to explore why young people struggle to disengage from social media at bedtime, how we can measure this underlying drive, and how we can apply this understanding to help improve adolescent sleep.
My current study explores social media and sleep habits in adults. Please consider taking part in the 10 minute online survey!
